The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00 per hour based on the national average.

Job Description:

The Renewance Field Service Technician will provide customers with technical support for industrial batteries used in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including hands-on installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of batteries. The technician will work closely with the engineering and service teams to ensure the smooth operation of energy storage solutions throughout their lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience working with BESS, including expertise in troubleshooting, performance optimization, and energy storage technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Install and commission Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related components, including energy storage modules, inverters, and control systems.
  • Install and configure controls-related firmware necessary to communicate with and control the battery energy storage system (BESS).
  • Support cold commissioning (electrical checks using auxiliary power) and hot commissioning (energized electrical checks) of BESS and troubleshoot related performance issues.
  • Perform critical tasks such as cell and module charging/balancing to optimize the performance of energy storage systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to BESS during all phases of commissioning, ensuring the systems meet performance and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with customers and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting of project status, issues, and resolutions.
  • Provide technical support to customers on-site and remotely to troubleshoot system faults and resolve performance issues, improving customer satisfaction.
  • Manage defective part returns in support of warranty claims and track repairs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with battery standards, regulations, and safety procedures throughout the service lifecycle.
  • Travel to and remain at assigned jobsites until assigned tasks are completed.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience working with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of BESS-related electrical components such as inverters, battery management systems (BMS), and energy storage modules.
  • In-depth experience in electrical troubleshooting specifically related to BESS, including fault isolation, diagnosing and resolving issues with battery cells, modules, inverters, and electrical systems within energy storage systems.
  • Proven ability to perform advanced troubleshooting on electrical systems associated with energy storage solutions, including high-voltage systems, electrical distribution, and control circuits.
  • Expertise in cold and hot commissioning of BESS, including energizing systems, performing electrical checks, conducting cell/module balancing, and resolving any issues that may arise during startup or operational phases.
  • Proven ability to interpret technical schematics and wiring diagrams for electrical and control systems within BESS and make data-driven decisions to address system malfunctions or inefficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, and provide effective customer-facing technical support throughout the lifecycle of BESS installations.
  • Proven track record of executing maintenance and repairs for large-scale energy storage systems, ensuring long-term system performance and reliability.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with advanced power conversion systems, switchgear, or inverter systems commonly integrated within BESS.
  • Experience with remote monitoring and diagnostics of BESS systems, using software tools to analyze performance and resolve faults.
  • Project management experience in BESS deployments, including meeting deadlines, managing resources, and ensuring quality standards.
  • HVAC or power conversion certification, such as EPA 608 or equivalent, is a plus.

Preferred locations are Arizona, Nevada, and Southern California, though other locations will be considered. Requires 75% or more travel to customer sites. Paid training and certification courses, PPE, tools and other resources provided.
